A school zone sign warns motorists to slow down and take care to keep students safe.

Motorists reminded: Take care in school zones

PARKERSBURG - Wood County Schools officials are reminding motorists to take extra time and care during drop-off and pick-up times for students.

Though the school system has begun on a staggered schedule this fall, buses are still running every day and many students are walking to school.

“It may be an unusual start, but school is back in session,” said Superintendent Will Hosaflook. ”Our top priority is the safety of students and staff, and that includes on their way to and from school. We just urge everyone to slow down, give yourself a little more time to get where you’re going, and to be very watchful for buses and students, especially in school zones.”

Officials also remind motorists is it illegal to pass a school bus that is stopped and has its lights flashing as children board or get off of the bus.
