Wood Schools to remain on blended learning format

PARKERSBURG - The Wood County Board of Education Tuesday agreed to have Wood County Schools continue to operate on a blended learning model.

Students will continue to alternate in-person instruction and remote learning, with half of students attending Monday and Wednesday and the other half attending Tuesday and Thursday. Friday will be a remote learning day for all students.

The decision followed statements from the Wood County Schools Principals Association, Wood County Education Association and the Wood County American Federation of Teachers. All three groups expressed concerns with returning to a five-day-a-week in-school format due to restrictions still in place to slow and stop the spread of COVID-19.

In particular, officials said social distancing would be nearly impossible with the full student body returning to classes at the same time, especially during lunch when masks would have to be removed.

The Wood County Board of Education has directed administrators to develop lunchtime plans for each school to determine the best way to feed students while observing CDC guidelines on COVID-19.

Re-entry options will be reevaluated at the school board’s Oct. 13 meeting.
