Blennerhassett Middle presents “Shrek the Musical Jr.”

PARKERSBURG - Blennerhassett Middle School students will visit an off-kilter land of children’s stories and fairy tales this weekend in a production of “Shrek: The Musical Jr.”

The production is directed by Parkersburg South High School teacher Doug Parks and performed by members of the Junior Thespian Troupe 88963. The musical is based on the DreamWorks Animation Motion Picture “Shrek” and the book “Shrek!” written by William Steig.

The musical adaptation follows the adventures of Shrek (Zane VanFossen), a grumpy ogre who finds himself the unlikely rescuer of a Princess Fiona (Ali Evans) who is more than she appears to be, and his loyal but very chatty sidekick Donkey, (Andrew Hanna). A variety of classic characters from children’s fairytales find themselves thrown together and working toward a revolution as they are exiled from the kingdom of Duloc by the Napoleonic Lord Farquaad (Jayme Short) who seeks to become  a king and rule over the land and all of its creatures.

The show will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, May 7, and Saturday, May 8; at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 9; and at 7 p.m. Friday May 14, all at Blennerhassett Middle School.
