As part of Teacher Appreciation Week, I want to take a moment to personally say ‘Thank You’ to all of Wood County Schools’ selfless and dedicated educators. This has been one of the most challenging school years in recent history. Our teachers have not only endured nearly impossible tasks but have risen to the challenge and have continued to place our students first. Our teachers and personnel have dedicated countless hours keeping students engaged, providing support and care to families, and giving our children a beacon of normalcy in an often turbulent and uncertain world. The work you do each day is more appreciated than you will ever know. Wood County Schools is blessed to have so many caring and dedicated teachers, and I want all of you to know: We see what you are doing and what you have done, and we are thankful you are here. Thank you for making a difference!

Good evening Jackson parents, students, and staff, This is Mr. Kisner with an announcement concerning the re-entry of students into Jackson next Tuesday, January 19. First, there is no school on Monday, January 18, due to Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We will use the Blended Model starting January 19. Students with last names starting with L-Z will come on Tuesday/Thursday, and students with last names starting with A-K will come on Monday/Wednesday. On Friday, 1/22, A-K students will attend. The following Friday, L-Z students will attend. I have placed a calendar on the Jackson website attached with this announcement that I hope will help clarify. On February 15, we hope all students can return to 5 days a week. I am also attaching all the mitigation items we have in place at Jackson to maintain safety for all students and staff. All these will be in place starting next week so we can make sure everyone understands them. Please remember the most important item is that all students properly wear their masks. There are a few changes! The daily schedule is changed slightly to provide longer transition times to keep students from being too crowded in the hallways. Students must eat breakfast in the cafeteria. In the morning 6th grade will report to the main hallway, 7th grade to the gym, and 8th grade to the 7th grade hallway until 7:45 when they go to 1st period. For lunch, only hot lunch will eat in the cafeteria. Cold lunch students will report to the gym to eat. Again, I have attached all items in place, as well as a copy of the daily schedule to this announcement. Have a great evening and Go Generals!

Good evening. On January 19, 2021, students will return to in-person instruction in our schools.  However, I fully understand that some students and families are uncomfortable about returning to school in-person.  To provide more opportunities for our students,  WCS is requesting all students wishing to be instructed in an off-campus learning model, outside of our schools for the second semester, complete the form attached in this correspondence or visit the Wood County Schools website for more information.   Depending on the number of students wishing to be instructed off-campus, we may have the ability to offer families and students different choices rather than just the WV Learns- Virtual School program.  Once again, if you wish for your child to be instructed off-campus second semester, please complete the enrollment form.  The form is due by 3:30 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2021. Good evening Jackson parents, students, and staff: I want to mention that the 2nd nine weeks midterm is tomorrow. You can see your student’s midterm grades by checking their Schoology account. I also want to ask parents to please keep an eye on how your students or using their iPads. While many of our students are doing fine, it also appears some are not using the devices for educational purposes and seem to be using it more as a social media time. While students are in Team’s meetings with teachers, they can say hello to friends and classmates and answer or ask questions. However, putting inappropriate words or gifs in the chat are not what these devices are for. We all want to be back in school and see one another, however at this time we have to continue this mode of teaching giving our students an opportunity to continue learning. Lastly, I want to invite our students to participate in the General Jingle sponsored by our student council this coming week. Please see how to participate by looking at the attached flyer on this announcement in the Live Feed and checking out the News section on the website. I hope you have a great evening and Go Generals!

Good evening Jackson parents, students, and staff, Wood County is “orange” on the COVID state map from November 7. Unfortunately, this means that all instruction for the week of November 9-13 will be remote on Schoology. All students will receive instruction Monday-Thursday and do NOT follow the blended learning model. Please note, Wednesday, Nov. 11, is a holiday and no instruction will occur. Students will follow their daily schedule to meet with or conference with teachers via Schoology. Students should get on Schoology and follow their class schedule. Jackson Middle School has modified the daily schedule for remote days, this is posted on our Jackson website under the News category. This schedule is modified for students to be online to meet with teachers and also to allow for breaks. I know this is the beginning of a new nine weeks. If your student, doesn’t know their new class it will show up on Schoology in the place of their previous rotation; these courses would only be PE, Art, or Health. If you have questions feel free to call the school. Teachers will be in the building and available during classroom hours for students. The school day will start at 8 am. Please remember new learning will be going on and material covered on these days students will be responsible for. We will try and help out as much as we can, please feel free to message your teachers or call the school with questions. I also want to mention that sports practice is allowed to continue on these days. However, athletes are not to make contact or do face-to-face drills. Make sure you wear a mask in and out of the building and keep it on until your coach tells you to remove it. All practices will remain at the scheduled time as staff are required to work their regular day. Thank you for your time and patience and please remember we are all in this together. Wear a mask, wash your hands and keep your distance. Have a good evening and as always, GO GENERALS!

Good evening Jackson parents, students, and staff, This is Mr. Kisner with a couple announcements. First, I want to remind everyone that next Friday, November 6 will be the last day of the first nine weeks. Students need to make sure all work is completed by November 6 and turned in to count for the first nine weeks. Beginning the second nine weeks, students submitting late work will be penalized for it being late. I also want to mention that beginning November 16, all students wishing to come 4 days a week will begin that date. If you wish to come 4 days a week, you will not need to do anything except come to school on that date. If you DO NOT wish your student to return 4 days a week and would like your child to participate in the 5-day remote learning starting November 16, please call the school office and leave your child’s name, your name, and a contact number. Administration or the counselor will then call you back to set up a time to complete the required form. If you are currently enrolled in WV Virtual School, you may remain in that program and do not have to do anything to continue the process. You are not able to leave WV Virtual School to go to remote learning at this time. It is important that we know your instructional preferences so that we may prepare for our students who will be learning on and off campus. Thank you for your time and your patience with us as we begin this transition. You will receive more information as this date nears. Have a great weekend and Go Generals!

Wood County Schools has been informed of a positive COVID 19 case at Jackson Middle School. At this time, we have already taken steps to inform individuals that we believe were directly exposed to the positive individual. If you are not contacted by the principal or school nurse, no action is needed at this time. However, the Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department is working closely with Wood County Schools to identify any other potential persons who may have had close contact with the individual that tested positive for COVID-19. If the Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department determines contact has occurred with the positive individual, you will be contacted accordingly. Wood County Schools will continue to take appropriate actions, working in collaboration with the Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department, to protect the safety and well-being of our students and staff. To keep our schools open to our children, it will take our entire community following established COVID-19 protocols including hand washing, use of hand sanitizer, use of face coverings, and practicing social distancing. We appreciate your on-going support and commitment to the health and well-being of the Wood County Schools Community. If you have questions, please contact Nurse McMillian, the School Nurse at Jackson, or Julie Bertram, Nursing Coordinator for Wood County Schools at the Wood County Board of Education. You may also contact the Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department @ 304-485-7374.

Good evening Jackson parents, students, and staff I want to give you a couple pieces of information concerning some things going on here at Jackson. First, I know that the process of learning Schoology continues and we are all working together to get through this process. I encourage everyone to use the Parent Access setup papers that were sent home last Thursday and this Monday to set up your parent access. This will allow you to get reports on various information concerning your students assignments and things they have turned in. I also want to mention that October 5 will be mid-term for the first nine weeks of school. Again, you can use your parent access to view student completed work and current grades in courses. I also want to mention that our Parent/Teacher group will be meeting for the first time, Thursday, October 1, at 3:30 pm. They will be meeting on the front of the campus and we encourage you to bring your own chair. Feel free to come and join in the discussion. I also would like to remind you one of the best things you can do is join the PTA membership with your $5 donation! I hope you all have a great evening and Go Generals!

Good evening Jackson parents, students, and staff This is Mr. Kisner with a brief message. First let me say everyone is doing a great job, I know this has not been an easy start and we are all still learning Schoology and what to expect on remote learning days. Please try and be patient with us as we continue to learn and we grow familiar with lessons and workload for students. Today, students should have brought home a paper with parent access codes on the top, as well as instructions on how to get signed up for your parent Schoology account. On the back of this paper, there are also instructions on how to add additional students to your account. On Monday, the rest of the students will receive these access codes and information. If you need help, feel free to call the school from 3:30 – 5:30 Monday through Thursday with any Schoology questions for our Schoology Help Desk. Thank you and have a great weekend! Go Generals!

I encourage you to continue to wash your hands, wear your mask, and remember to watch your distance from people in every situation. I do want to mention that on days students are not on campus, they need to be checking their Schoology accounts for that day's assignments from their teachers. 2019-2020 yearbooks are in! 🎉 A few things, and as with everything, please be patient and show grace as we distribute and sell books: • Current seventh and eighth graders (last year’s sixth and seventh graders) who ordered books will receive them during IE Wednesday or Thursday. • We have extras, and they may be purchased for $45, cash only, beginning this Wednesday, Sept. 16. Books are available on a first come, first served basis; we won’t order more. Mrs. Hedgepath will sell from the main office, and I will sell from room 31. I only will sell from 7:45 to 8 a.m., during IE 4, or immediately after school. If a student has me for class, he or she can bring money to class to eliminate extra trips. • Last year’s eighth graders (current freshmen) and current virtual students will have two times to pick up and/or purchase books. I will have a table set up in front of the cafeteria this Friday, Sept. 18, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. and again next Saturday, Sept. 26, from noon to 2 p.m. If a sibling currently attends JMS and is to pick up instead, please ask the current student to inform his or her IE teacher, who will then contact me. Please remember books are now $45, CASH ONLY, and when they are gone, they are gone. If you have questions, please email jflinville@k12.wv.us ☺️ Thank you! I believe the book was well worth the wait! 💚💚

Good afternoon Jackson parents, students, and staff, Tomorrow begins the 2020-2021 school year! We are starting in with the blended model this week and students with last names L-Z will come tomorrow and Thursday, and students with last names A-K will come Wednesday and Friday of this week! I want to remind everyone also that if you wish to have a Buddy Bag you must pre-order those by 9am tomorrow morning. Use the link that I provided yesterday on our website under the Livefeed. I want to also mention a couple other items today. First, let’s talk a little about 6th grade orientation. I know many have been anxious about the beginning of school and everyone has done a great job preparing. It is finally here and it will be extremely easy! First, 6th graders will remain in the cafeteria in the morning and their 1st period teacher will come get them at 7:45. If you arrive later than 7:45, we will assist you to your 1st period. Once in 1st period the 6th grade will begin their orientation and have a revised scheduled for the first day. I will be posting this revised schedule under NEWS on our website today! All students will discuss procedures and expectations in each and every class this week. We will be going over many items and I encourage parents to look over our student handbook which is posted online for your convenience. We will all be learning “school” again just like it is a first year for each student, teacher, and administrator. However, I am very confident Jackson Middle School will be an example of this as Generals always lead!! Finally dismissal procedures. The dismissal bell will ring at 3:12, but like all other bells this year, students are dismissed only by staff, not the bell! All students need to exit the building in the following manner: 6th grade – exit the front doors and down the main stairs to the community building 7th grade – exit the breezeway doors and go to the sidewalk to the community building or pool/tennis courts 8th grade – exit by room 36 or the breezeway doors and go to the pool/tennis courts or down sidewalk to community building NO ONE SHOULD EXIT THROUGH DOOR 17 to the side parking lot! No one will be allowed to linger or wait in the hallways, students need to exit the building when dismissed. At 3:12, walkers will be dismissed first. After walkers have left the building, students being picked up will be dismissed. After all riders have cleared the halls, athletes going to practice and bus students will be dismissed. Bus students will be dismissed by bus to the cafeteria where they will wait for their bus at an assigned table! During dismissal all students must wear a face covering and keep it on until they have left the building and are off school grounds. I thank you all for your help and patience as we begin this school year! I look forward to seeing all our students this week! Have a great day! Go Generals!

This is a reminder that the 2020-2021 school year will begin on Tuesday, September 8th for students with last names beginning with L-Z. On Wednesday, September 9th, students with last names A-K will report to school. Due to Monday being Labor Day, students with last names A-K will report Friday, September 11th as well. Please visit the Wood County Schools website, and then click “2020-2021 Re-entry Summarization” for more details. Our re-entry schedule has not changed since being published. Students will attend school on a Blended-Model of instruction for 3 weeks, which is our Yellow Schedule, or until proper procedures, protocols, and new standards have been taught and implemented. Also, please do not confuse yourself with the WVDE color-coded map. The map is used as one of many tools to drive local decisions for our school system. As mentioned in previous communications, we will closely monitor the data each day to make well-informed and deliberate decisions, while keeping safety as the top priority for our students and employees. Over the last six months, we have worked diligently and methodically to create a well-rounded plan for re-entry. I’m sure we have not thought about every issue that may arise - please be patient as we work through making adjustments, changing protocols or procedures, and seeking feedback from our stakeholders to make this school year a great success. Although not a requirement, I am asking each student to bring their own mask and bottle of water on the first day of school. This will help expedite first day procedures and practices for our schools as they begin teaching expected behaviors for the year. Students will receive a Wood County mask on the first day and will be expected to possess and use it on a continual basis as we navigate through a new normal for our school system. We are so excited to see your children in our schools once again. We have greatly missed their presence the last six months. As always, make sure to Wear a mask, Watch your distance, and Wash your hands. To view our first WCS Newsletter, please click https://tinyurl.com/yxbaddej Have a safe and wonderful Holiday weekend.

Good afternoon Jackson parents, students, and staff; I hope everyone is having a great Labor Day weekend. Friday evening, I informed you about dropping off and morning procedures. Today I want to mention a couple items for students on the first few days. First, make sure you have your iPad with you and have it charged! If you don’t have an IPad please print the AUP and have it signed by parent and student. You will not get an IPad until this is signed. Students can also bring some paper and pencils with them. Teachers will let students know what they will need on a daily basis from there, we hope to cut down on the use of paper. Students will go to lockers from 1st period when dismissed by their teacher. Again, most textbooks will be electronic and therefore the need to go to the locker will be reduced. If a student doesn’t know who their 1st period teacher is, please ask someone. If you don’t have a schedule you will be directed to a room to find out what your 1st period is. There will be NO lists in the hallway so we don’t have students standing around. Once in 1st period, teachers will go over policies and procedures for the school and their class. They will share announcements and provide valuable county policies. Each student will be offered a WCS mask. All students must have a face covering each and every school day. Also, please try and bring a water bottle as we cannot use water fountains at this time. There will be 4 lunches this year due to spacing limits. Students will have a designated lunch on their schedule. Students will eat in the cafeteria in the designated areas. Students must have a mask on until they sit down, anytime a student leaves their area they must put their face covering back on. Weather permitting, students will be allowed to eat outside in the bleacher area. They must maintain social distancing and put trash in the designated areas. I know many things are different this school year and some may seem to be inconvenient. However, we must continue to cooperate with the guidelines so that we may have in-person learning. I will provide one more announcement tomorrow! I hope you have a great day and GO GENERALS!

Good afternoon Jackson parents, students, and staff As we prepare for the opening of school, I would like to provide some information over the next few days. Let me thank everyone that came to get student IPads the last few days! This went very well and I appreciate our staff and students as we were able to get these devices to students. If you didn’t get an iPad, you can go to our website and print a copy of the AUP from the News section. If you bring it your first day of school we will try and get your iPad. If not, we will get it to you when we have a parent and student signature on the AUP. IPads need brought to school EVERYDAY! Another important item is 7th grade immunizations. If we don’t have a copy of your 7th graders immunizations, please make sure to contact our school nurse and get this taken care of. I know Nurse McMillian has been contacting parents to get these items taken care of in a timely manner. A student can not participate in school until these immunizations have been documented to the school. Lastly, let's talk about arrival at Jackson Middle School this year. Doors will not be unlocked until 7:30 am to the cafeteria. If you are dropping students off you can drop off at the Vienna Community building or drive down to 32nd Street to the end of the football field and come in the back of the parking lot. You can then drop off as you come down the hill by the cafeteria. ALL students will enter the building through the cafeteria doors. Students MUST have a face covering when they enter and keep on please. 6th grade will sit in the cafeteria. STUDENTS SHOULD SIT 1 TO A BENCH (8 TO A TABLE). 6th grade can pick up their breakfast in the cafeteria. 7th grade will sit in the BLEACHERS in gym. Students come in and need to sit on a seat WITHOUT A WHITE MARK ON IT. 8th grade will sit in the 7th grade hallway. Students red to sit 3 tiles apart. 7th and 8th grade can get breakfast in their areas. All students will eat in the classroom, NO outside food is permitted. Students will go to 1st period at 7:45 by grade level. Anyone coming in cafeteria after 7:45 will grab breakfast and go to 1st period. 1st period will begin at 8am! More will follow in the coming days...as always, GO GENERALS!

If you have not picked up your IPad yet, we will be distributing to anyone that can get here today between the hours of 9am and 3pm. Please come to the side parking lot and then walk to the back of the building, we are set up in the courtyard area there. If you open the link you should get the slide presentation, click on PRESENT and then hopefully you can go to where you want and get to see our wonderful staff here at Jackson. Good evening, Each Sunday evening, from this day forward, I will provide all stakeholders an update from the WVDHHR and WVDE Covid-19 metrics data for Wood County. The metics data will be used to govern activities and other requirements in our school system for the upcoming week. This week, Wood County has a 2.74 average seven day trend, which includes 16 probable and confirmed positive cases the last seven days. We will continue to analyze the data of the metrics, and make necessary adjustments on protocols and procedures in our schools based on current trends. For the upcoming week of August 31, Wood County is “Green” on the metrics; therefore, all co-curricular and extra-curricular activities are allowed to participate. However, three counties in WV - Kanawha, Monroe, and Logan are orange or red in the metrics and will not be allowed to participate in any activities this week. As you can see, this is a community driven metrics, which has serious implications for our school system. Please do your part and encourage others on the 3 W’s to help our students return in-person to our schools - Wear a mask, Watch your distance, and Wash your hands. Once again, please download our mobile app on our website and continually check the “News” feed to stay up to date on what is happening in our schools. Keep up the great work. Have a great evening.

Notes from Parent Meeting This evening I want to give you as much information as I possibly can in this short amount of time. 1) As of July 28, WCS has developed a re-entry to schools plan for the 2020-2021 school year. You can find this plan in its entirety on WCS website. 2. This plan is a 3 color designation system (RED, Yellow, and Green). I want to take a little time to explain these to you. CODE DESIGNATIONS (please see handout) CODE GREEN All students on campus CODE YELLOW A-K alphabetically by last name (M/W) L-Z alphabetically by last name (T/Th) ALL students remote on F *(if siblings w/ different last names you can call and speak to administration to make change) CODE RED ALL students REMOTE LEARNING All WCS will begin school on Sept 8 in CODE YELLOW – with students attending 2 days per week in person and remote learning the other 3. The plan is for this to hopefully occur 2-3 weeks based on the COVID data from the MOV Health Dept and State of WV. 3. Another item I want to clarify is instruction models that students may partake in this school year. 1. VIRTUAL SCHOOL a. Students are assigned a WV virtual school teacher. b. The work is totally online. c. This is NOT the student’s teacher here at Jackson. d. The VIRTUAL SCHOOL classwork is via the WV Learns platform and usually requires self-motivation and support from home. e. DEADLINE to enroll in Virtual School is August 14 at 4p.m. This is done online through the WCS website, go to the EVENTS section and you will see it at the top. 2. REMOTE LEARNING (days students do not attend brick/mortar) a. Used on CODE YELLOW as well as CODE RED days, also seen on the WCS calendar as NT (Non-traditional) days, and any snow days could possibly be these days. b. Students will be taught by their classroom teacher at Jackson. c. Schoology and MS Teams will be the platforms used for these days to communicate instruction and provide 5 DAY instruction 3. HOMESCHOOLING a. Student is taught at home completely by their parents. The student receives NO services from WCS. I hope this helps clarify some terminology for everyone. 4. So let’s talk about some things that we are doing here at Jackson for the safety of our students and staff. One piece of that was due to our Central Office a few weeks ago and is an ongoing document. It is the JMS School re-entry plan that talks about 4 main areas, FEEDING OF STUDENTS, ARRIVAL/DISMISSAL, SUPERVISION IN THESE AREAS, AND DUTY FREE LUNCH FOR TEACHERS. 5. Let’s talk about a few things as we look at our RE-ENTRY PLAN AS WELL. IPADS – all students will receive an IPAD assigned to them by WCS. IPAD distribution to students will be done much like they would come to school on Code Yellow. Students with the last name A-K can come pick up on August 31 or Sept 2 from 9am – 3 pm. Students with the last name L-Z can come pick up on Sept 1 or Sept 3 from 9am-3pm. If you can not pick up on those times please call the school to schedule a time to pick up during school hours on another date after September 3. These IPADS are tools and students are responsible to use them appropriately. All students and parents MUST sign an Acceptable Use Policy BEFORE a student can take their IPAD home. When you come to pick up ipads you can sign this form, we will also make them available to be printed and signed to bring in. 6. I know many of our students and parents alike are anxious about how school will be, especially those new to Jackson! Let me assure you we are all NEW to school this year and things are going to be different for even those who are not new. I know a major thing about Jackson has always been TOUR DE JACKSON. Let me say we will be having this, but it will be the first day of school. 6th grade will remain in their 1st period classes and we will work on a schedule to let you know a little more about that when teachers come back next week. We will work on where things are, how to open lockers, where to put this and that, how to get to the gym/cafeteria/counselor. We will meet new faces and go over school policies and procedures. 7. FACE COVERINGS!! All students in 6-8 are required to wear a face covering unless medically excused by a physician in writing to the administration. A face covering can be a mask, handkerchief, gator, face shield, etc. as long as it isn’t attached to a HAT or has anything on it that is inappropriate or offensive. All WCS students will be provided 2 masks by the county that they need to bring daily, I encourage students to bring their own from home and feel free to decorate and have fun with them. Students are required to wear a face covering anytime they are on a school bus, when they come into the building, are walking through the building, and even in the classroom if 6 foot distancing is not possible. Students will be given time during classes to take a “mask break”. Please remember we wear a mask for the confidence and safety of all our students and staff. This will be treated as a dress code item and must be followed please. 8. When students ARRIVE to Jackson they will enter through the CAFETERIA DOORS only!!! We will start allowing students into the building at 730. We are still waiting on bus route information for times and if this time changes I will do a call to all parents. 6th grade students will come in and sit in the cafeteria! Please sit on the designated benches and follow directions of the supervising teachers. 7th and 8th grade will go upstairs. 7th grade students will walk across the stage and sit in the 7th grade hallway, again please sit in the designated areas and follow directions of the supervising staff. 8th grade will go into the gym and sit in the bleachers. Please follow the directions of the supervising staff and sit in designated areas. At 745 students will be dismissed to 1st period and have the opportunity to get a grab and go breakfast in their designated area. ALL STUDENTS MUST WEAR A MASK DURING THIS ENTIRE TIME. 9. Students will go to 1st period WITH ALL ITEMS. Teachers will dismiss students to go to lockers by colors. Each student’s locker will have a color dot on it and they will be allowed to go to their locker to put items away and collect things during 1st period. Students are encouraged to try and get all items for the morning. They will also be given time before lunch to get lunches and return items. During times in HALLWAYS and walking to various areas students must wear a face covering. 10. TRANSITIONING between classes will again be done by dismissal by groups via the intercom. This is to keep students from passing too much in the hallways. Students will travel to each class as quickly as possible. Students MUST wear their face covering during this time. Students will go to all SPECIALS that are on their schedule/ they will practice good social distancing habits. Gym classes will go on as scheduled, students will not be required to “dress out” for gym during CODE YELLOW. Please try and wear gym appropriate shoes!! Choir and Band students will attend those specials with proper distancing/face coverings/ and even going outdoors when able to. 11. RESTROOMS /Water fountains– RR breaks are made a little difficult due to close proximity in the RR. Teachers may dismiss students to go to the RR (they must wear a face covering in the hall and RR). There can be no more then 3 individuals occupying the RR at a time please. Students need to make sure they practice proper handwashing and use hand sanitizer when they return to the room. We are still working out how we will monitor this. WCS is trying to install as many water bottle filling stations as possible where water fountains are to cut down on touch of items. At this time, water fountains will be covered and not in use. Please try and bring a water bottle, WATER only please. 12. LUNCH – We had to create 4 lunch periods for Jackson and these procedures are still being worked out some. All school lunches will be grab and go. We can have 72 students in the cafeteria eating during lunches. Students must enter the cafeteria with a face covering and when they sit down, they can remove the covering, eat, and the put the face covering back on. Students will have the option to stay in the cafeteria, go to the gym, or go outside to eat their lunch. Social distancing must be followed in all areas and students need to follow directives of the supervising staff please. 13. CLUBS- We have many different clubs here at Jackson. While we are functioning in CODE YELLOW, we will not be having clubs during the school day. If clubs wish to try and meet after school (much like extracurricular) and you are made aware by the supporting teacher and it has been approved by administration it can occur. 14. SPORTS – Currently all fall sports are scheduled to begin on August 17 wth practice. This is governed by the WVSSAC and we will follow all items handed down by them. All fall sports rules have been modified by the WVSSAC due to COVID and have specific guidance for these events. You can find all this info at the WVSSAC website under the COVID 19 information section. 15. DISMISSAL will be handled in this manner. Before 7th period, students will get items to GO HOME. All students will then be dismissed from last period by the intercom. Walkers will be released first. When all have left the building, those being PICKED UP will be dismissed. Pick up areas are as follows: 1. 8th grade – leave through the 2nd floor doors and picked up by the pool/tennis court areas 2. 7th grade – dismissed out the breezeway area and can be picked up by the pool/tennis courts or walk down the sidewalk toward the community building 3. 6th grade – dismissed out the front doors and go across to the community building 4. **please do not pick students up in the side parking lot, this is designated for buses and athletes may be crossing that lot. BUS STUDENTS will then be dismissed by the intercom to the cafeteria based on their bus #. Please follow these items, we will discuss and send out information; but this is the best way for us to safely try and keep students socially distanced and dismiss. 16. Student schedules are still being completed in order to even up classes. This way we will not have an overload of students in a class one day and only a few students on the next. We hope to have these completed within the next week. Virtual School student schedules are just being started to upload. They then have to be approved by the WV Virtual School people before they will get an email concerning the courses. We hope to pass out schedules on the same day we do IPAD distributions. 17. Student orientation will basically occur the first couple weeks. We will have a type of virtual open house that students can click on the map of the school and have a quick video from their teacher along with a welcome letter or syllabus from each teacher. This will not occur until teachers get back in the building next week.

Good evening Jackson parents, students, and staff: This is Mr. Kisner with an important announcement for all students and parents. First, let me say I hope everyone is safe and healthy during this unusual time. I know there have been many challenges and uncertainty for us all, however I want to say Wood County Schools looks forward to the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year and we are trying as hard as we can to continue the educational process for all children. Tonight, I want to invite parents and students to a virtual meeting to elaborate on how we will be handling the educational process here at Jackson and hopefully clarify some items. This virtual meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 11th, at two different times. If you are a parent of an incoming 6th grade student, I will begin the meeting at 5:30pm. If you are a 7th/8th grade parent, I will begin that meeting around 6:30 pm. I would ask that you attend the appropriate time frame, just so we do not overload the virtual meeting platform and allow as many to participate as possible. I will go over all the information that I have and if we have time, I will ask if anyone has questions. We will be using the Microsoft Teams platform. If you are not familiar with that platform, it is alright. I will post instructions on how to participate without a Microsoft account on our website under the EVENTS section on August 13. Under the EVENTS section on August 13, you will also find the link to join the meeting. Please be patient and we will try and get everyone in as quickly as possible to start the meetings on time. After 45 minutes, I will end the meeting and give you contact info if you have further questions. Under the EVENTS section for the meeting, I will also have a few handouts that you may wish to have. These are simply items for you to have for informational purposes and I will go over them in the meeting as well. Please note that I will be RECORDING these meetings to post on our Facebook group for anyone that was unable to attend and would like to see them. I will also be holding an in-person meeting for those that are unable to watch it virtually or do not have access to internet. If you can attend the VIRTUAL session, that is the best way to participate. Please remember we are to limit numbers of individuals gathered in person; this is why I feel it is best to do a virtual session. The in-person meeting will be held in our football stands on August 13 at 6pm. We will follow all social distancing guidelines at that time and I will make another announcement concerning it later next week. I want to thank you all for your understanding and patience as we try to begin the school year and keep each and every individual safe and healthy. I hope you have a great evening and GO GENERALS!!

Good morning, last evening the Wood County BOE approved the revised 2020-2021 school calendar. The calendar can be found on our website at woodcountyschoolswv.com then click "menu" then "COVID -19". Also, the WCBOE approved our draft re-entry to school plan, which is subject to change as new guidelines are being established each day. The draft re-entry plan can be found on our website in the "News" feed. Please take time to review the re-entry plan and provide feedback so changes can be considered. As of tonight, Wood County Schools will begin school September 8 in the "yellow" phase and will continue in "yellow" for the first three (3) weeks. On September 21/22, after analyzing community data related to COVID-19, we will make an informed decision to hopefully go "green" (5 days) beginning Monday, September 28. Please continue to follow all safety protocols to help our school system return to normal as quickly as possible. Stay safe and healthy. Have a great day.

Good evening, To better prepare for the upcoming fall semester, Wood County Schools is seeking an accurate number of students who would like to participate in a full-time virtual school program.  Students would be a Wood County student choosing to take their classes online in a rigorous, web-based learning environment.  The virtual school teachers are West Virginia teachers teaching West Virginia content standards.  Students will still be able to participate in extracurricular (sports, clubs) and co-curricular activities (Band, ROTC) as would any other student.  This is not an easier pathway, but a different pathway to utilize during these uncertain times.  The program is for students in grades K -12 interested in a virtual school learning environment.  If interested in pursuing the virtual school option for your child, please visit our webpage woodcountyschoolswv.com, click “Menu”, “Parents and Students”, “Virtual School”. You can also email Jason Potts at jason.potts@k12.wv.us for more information. Please stay safe and healthy - Have a wonderful evening.
