Leadership Day is Wednesday starting at 1pm!
Please join us on Wednesday for our Leadership Day program, Blasting into Leadership! All K- 5th grade students will sing and student council will perform their skit "Lessons from the Solar System". Parents can visit students classroom after the program then sign them out early with the teacher at 2:30. This event is sponsored by Title 1.
Buses may be delayed this morning due to high water in several areas across the county. We appreciate your patience as we work to safely pick up and deliver students this morning.
All Wood County Schools after-school and evening activities will be CANCELLED tonight (Tuesday, April 2, 2024) due to incoming inclement weather. Schools will dismiss at their normal times today.
Couple of reminders for this week:
Tomorrow students March Madness Bingo reading papers are due. They must be turned in by April 4th to be eligible for a prize! 3rd- 5th grade track try-outs are tomorrow after school. Students need to have their permission slips to try-out.
Friday, April 5th are the 3rd Nine Week Awards and Spelling Bee. Parents are welcome to attend: 3rd Awards will start at 8:30am followed by the 2nd- 3rd grade Spelling Bee
4th & 5th Awards will start at 9:30 am followed by the Spelling Bee.
Upcoming Events and Changes:
Next week is Book Fair week! Mrs. Tucker sent home envelopes for you to use to send money or e-wallet money for students to shop. Please use those envelopes to send all money so nothing is misplaced. Parent shopping night will be Thursday, March 21st after school until 4:30pm.

Dismissal reminders: Please avoid blocking driveways of residents around the school. In the entrance if you are in the pick up line, please move over to the right as far as you can to allow busses and other traffic to enter the parking lot.
Spring Break is March 25th- April 1st!
Parents are asked to complete an online survey about school climate the learning and teaching/working conditions at Madison, to help guide school improvement efforts. The results of this survey will be used to make changes in their child's school to ensure a supportive environment for teaching and learning. Calendar update: In order to account for missed school days due to inclement weather, students will now attend school on May 31 as well as June 3 and 4. Preschool will attend May 28 and 29. For staff, June 5 will be a curriculum development day (students do not attend) and June 6 will be a day to prepare for the end of the school year (students do not attend).
IMPORTANT UPDATE: The Wood County Board of Education will meet in special session Monday, Feb. 12, 2024, to conduct candidate interviews and appoint an interim board member to a vacant seat. The board has consulted with the Wood County Prosecutor’s Office and the Wood County Clerk’s Office and has been advised, due to election cycle deadlines, a selection must be made by February 12, 2024.
The online application period for those interested in applying for the interim position will close at 5 p.m. on Monday, February 12. The board meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. to announce the candidates and interviews will begin at 6:00 p.m. An appointment announcement will follow the completion of the interviews on February 12.
Those submitting an application by Sunday, February 11, will be informed of their interview time before 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 12. Applicants submitting applications on Monday, February 12, will be contacted as applications are received throughout the day to have interviews arranged for that evening.
Wood County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay on Monday, January 22, 2024.
Wood County Schools will be closed on Friday, January 19, 2024 due to inclement weather.
Due to icy road conditions and frigid temperatures, Wood County Schools will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, January 17, 2024.
Open enrollment starts today. Complete the form at woodcountyschoolswv.com/enrollment. Need some assistance or do not have access to the form? Visit your school office. The central office, at 1210 13th St. in Parkersburg, is another option for assistance with completing the form.
Open Enrollment begins at noon today (Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2024). If you would like your child to attend a school outside of your current attendance zone, you must complete the online enrollment form. The link opens at noon today.

All open enrollment requests are to be made beginning on January 16 at noon on our website at woodcountyschoolswv.com/enrollment. The enrollment is also available on the WCS app. If your child currently attends a school out of district, or you would like for your child to attend a school out of district, you will need to complete an online application. Although the form is simple to complete, if you feel you may need some assistance with the application process, or you do not have access to a device or the internet, all secretaries at our schools have an iPad and can assist you beginning at noon on Tuesday, January 16.
If you child attends the school that corresponds to your home address, and you wish for this to continue, there is no action needed on your part.

Just a reminder that our school Butter Braid fundraiser is due this Friday, Dec. 1st.
Prize to the top seller! All proceeds go towards our new slide for the playground. Pick-up will be Dec. 19th form 2:30-4:00pm.
This Friday night is also PTA Movie Night: doors open at 5:15pm and pick-up is at 7:15pm. We will show the movie "Elemental". You can register with the PTA or at the door. It is $3 a child or $5 per family. Concessions will be available for $1. This is only for Madison students. Pre-K students must be accompanied by an adult.
