Jackson PTA Spirit Order 2023 Orders are due September 8!

Good evening Jackson parents, students, and staff. This is Mr. Kisner with a few announcements! First, let me say we had a great first two days to the 2023-2024 school year! Students have been very attentive and ready to get back, although I think some seemed pretty tired after yesterday! I do need to mention a few items. First, students cannot be dropped off or picked up outside door 17, the entrance by the gym, unless they have mobility issues. Students must enter the building by the cafeteria doors or through door 1. Students may exit door 1 or door 8 on the second floor. This is a safety concern. There will be some student athletes that exit to the side parking lot to pick up snacks for after school practices, but no one is to exit the building to get a ride from that door. Thank you for your help. Next Monday, August 28, will be picture day! Students can pick up a picture packet outside of the office. The easiest way to order is using the QR code or website! Both these items will be posted to the Jackson website and Facebook page this evening! Our Jackson PTA group is also selling Spirit wear through September 8! You can get an order form by the main office, or again check the website and Facebook page this evening! They have a lot of great Jackson green! I also want to mention that tomorrow will be our first Jackson Friday, wear your Jackson green to school tomorrow! We want to start the year off right by showing our school spirit! Good evening Jackson parents, students, and staff. We want to welcome everyone to Jackson beginning tomorrow! We look forward to starting the school year and having students back in the learning environment! Students can be dropped off at 7:30 in the morning, all students enter through the cafeteria. Anyone that wishes to eat breakfast needs to get a breakfast bag and eat in the cafeteria. 6th grade students will stay in the cafeteria each morning until the dismissal bell rings. Tomorrow, 6th grade will wait in the cafeteria until their HR teacher picks them up! 7th grade students will come in the cafeteria and go upstairs to the cafeteria where they will sit on the floor. 8th grade students will go upstairs to the gym and sit in the bleachers. At 7:50, the release bell will ring for students to go to HR. All students will report to HR first and teachers will make sure everyone has a schedule and locker. Then students will be sent to lockers to put things in them. One thing that I want to mention about this year are drinks in school. If you bring a drink to school it must be in a sealable bottle. That means it must have a twist or snap lid with no straw. Students will not be allowed to take beverages to their lockers or classes that do not have this due to spills. If you bring something like that, you will be asked to finish it in the cafeteria before going upstairs. Also, students should only have water throughout the day. At lunch, they can have other drinks as long as it is not an energy drink. Thank you for your help with this! The first two days of school we will run a modified schedule so that all students will get to know expectations and routines. Each grade level will also have an assembly the first couple of days. We also encourage parents to take a look at our Student Handbook on the website. Students will be bringing home a lot of information that needs to be completed by parents and guardians, please return this information back to the school as soon as possible. Finally, let me inform everyone that Jackson will have school pictures on Monday, August 28. All students will be able to have their picture taken. You can get a picture order form from school, I will also be posting a flyer to our webpage and Facebook page in the next couple of days. These will be posted by grade level and students can find their names on these lists. On Monday, August 21, we will have an open house from 4:45-6:45 when students can go to their homeroom and get their schedule. Have a great evening and Go Generals!

Good afternoon! This is Mr. Kisner with a quick update for our 6th grade orientation this afternoon. The doors to the cafeteria will open at 2:45. However, the community building parking lot will not be open due to paving. You can come down the side parking lot and drop students off or park at the tennis court by the pool or in the side lot. Good afternoon, Jackson parents, students, and staff! This message is a reminder for all incoming 6th grade students and parents. On August 15, from 3-5pm, we will be having an orientation for our new 6th grade students. Students can be dropped off by parents at the cafeteria doors out front, this is where all students enter the school on a daily basis. Doors will open at 2:45 pm. Students will look for their name on the front windows to find their homeroom. Students will then sit at the tables with their HR listed on it. Students will go through the following orientation items: 1)Tour of the building 2) Locks and lockers, students will get to see their locker and work on opening their locks 3) Acceptable Use Policy for technology and IPads – all incoming 6th graders need to complete an AUP to get their new device 4) Schedules – students will get their current schedule and get to ask questions about the school This is not a mandatory orientation; however it is a great opportunity for students to see first-hand things that will go on the first couple days of school. All students will be doing these exact same things the first couple days of school! Again, let me mention that the Acceptable Use Policy form that needs completed by each student is on our website, right under the NEWS section. This is an online form that simply needs completed and submitted. At 4:30, there will be a time for parents to come in and meet with administration to get information and ask any questions they may have at that time. The orientation will be over at 5:00 pm. SCREENING FOR CHILDREN ENTERING SCHOOL - Screening will be conducted by school nurses and other professionals during regular school hours in Wood County Schools for students entering school for the first time. In addition, students entering parochial or other non-public schools will be screened. Screening will be done to identify problems in the following areas: language, speech, hearing, and vision. Parents of public school students who do not wish to have their child participate in this screening should inform the principal of the school attended by the child. Now Available: Explore the rich history of Wood County Schools through New Era School: A dialogue with Esther Carroll A one-room school building located on the Mineral Wells Elementary School campus serves as a connection to our past. This building, known as New Era school, has been transformed into a museum that showcases the educational community of the nineteenth century. Within the museum, there is an extensive collection of carefully selected materials that chronicle the history of schools in Wood County. The museum is accessible to the general public, offering both individual and group tours, including school trips. In the latest episode of the WCS Voices Podcast, Esther Carroll, a retired library media specialist from Wood County Schools, shares her insights. Ms. Carroll oversees the museum's operations and is responsible for curating historical primary sources and various media. Attention all Summer School Students at PHS: Summer School will begin this Monday, June 12th. There will be a mandatory meeting for all students in the Auditorium on Monday at 8:30. If you have not registered for Summer School, you can do that between 8-830 in Student Services on Monday. Please be advised that Driver’s Ed and PE are already full. At this meeting, we will give the students a handout with the times and dates for Summer School. If you have been assigned to take the second semester of Summer School only, that does not begin until July 3rd. Summer School is only for students who need to retake a course they have already failed in 9-12th grade or to obtain original credit in Health/PE/Driver’s Ed. All students will be issued an iPad, but they will not go home. Students will be able to work on coursework at their own pace, extra on their own time and must attend to pass. When they are finished with their course and have passed it for credit recovery, they will be able to leave for the summer. Summer School hours will be 8:00-11:30 M-F with a grab-and-go breakfast available until 8:30. Lunch will also be a grab-and-go at 11:30. Good afternoon, this is Christie Willis, superintendent of Wood County Schools. Unforeseen traffic issues today have delayed eight Wood County Schools buses bringing students back from field trips in Charleston. This will cause a 30-45 minute dismissal delay for students on those buses and for student who ride those buses home. Students who are delayed at the school will continue to be supervised until the buses arrive. This delay includes students riding bus numbers 80, 81, 169, 176, 183, 184 and 218. This affects students from Williamstown Middle High School, Parkersburg High School, Parkersburg South High School, Jackson Middle, Edison Middle, Blennerhassett Middle, Hamilton Middle, Neale Elementary, Lubeck Elementary, Blennerhassett Elementary, Kanawha Elementary and Williamstown Elementary schools. We apologize for the inconvenience and want to assure everyone that students are safe and in good hands. The safety of students is our number one priority. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this situation.

8th grade Salute to the Scholars for this evening time was changed to 5pm several weeks ago. Students all received a change of time letter.

Good evening parents, students, and staff. This Monday and Tuesday, our students will be turning in their electronic devices. On Monday, May 15, the 6th grade will turn in their IPad, charging block, and charging cable. This will occur in the afternoon for 6th grade only. On Tuesday afternoon, 7th and 8th grade students will be turning in their IPad, charging block, and charging cable. Students need to have all three items with them to turn in. Students will be given a receipt for items turned in, if they do not have one of the items; it will be noted on the receipt. Please make sure you keep your receipt for reference. If a student forgets something, they will need to turn the item in to the school office as soon as they can and it will be noted on the school’s copy of the receipt. These end of the year assessments are a great opportunity for our students to show the growth they have made throughout the year. We wish everyone the best of luck and encourage them to do their very best. Parents, please encourage your student and help us by doing the following: Make sure your students iPad is completely charged for the day! It is extremely important that your child has their device ready to go each morning! Also, please make sure your student has a good night sleep before each day! Student need to be well rested and ready to perform at their best. Lastly, they need to fuel their body. Having breakfast or a light snack is a great start to the day.
