The school year may be over, but it's never to early to mark your calendar! The 2024-2025 school year will host Open House on Monday, August 19. Elementary schools will be from 4 to 6 pm and middle and high schools (including WCTC/Caperton Center) from 5 to 7 pm. The Emergency and Fire Management senior class completed the last training event to obtain their Firefighter 2 certification and this wraps up their school year!
To finish of the year, the Sports Medicine Program held a taping championship! Congratulations, Becca Shambin on being the best taper of the morning class! Not only did she win the second semester challenge, but she also won the first!
The Mid-Ohio Valley Workforce Development Board will offer two summer programs for students. The CTE Exploration Camp for incoming 8th-11th grade students will provide an opportunity to explore skilled trades of carpentry, welding, electrical as well as automotive, aviation, health care, and culinary. Camp will take place from July 10-12, 8:30am-3:00pm. The program includes virtual reality simulations, hands on projects, and guest speakers. Participants will earn certificates in workplace safety and customer service.
The Apprenticeship Readiness Program provides incoming and graduating seniors the opportunity to participate in an Apprenticeship Readiness program from June 24 through 28th from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 pm. This experience will include hands on projects, mentoring, and career information in Construction, Carpentry, Electrical, Welding, and more. The week-long event will include tours of local union training facilities and mentoring from master craftsmen as well as the use of Virtual Reality for students to simulate on-the-job experiences in addition to the hands-on projects. Transportation assistance is available. Space is limited space. Additional opportunities will be available to earn work and skills credentials.

A few students from the Emergency and Fire Management program had the opportunity to attend Wood County Fire School.
We were fortunate enough to get photos of the ITLS High threat environment class where students learned how to triage and operate in hot zones and the Elevator Extraction and High elevation rescue class where students learned how to operate and rescue in tight spaces.
The remaining students attended Basic Fire Skills class at Lubeck VFD, where they got to practice all of their Firefighter 1 skills.
To finish off the year, the Electrical Program installed solar panels at the WVU-P Agriculture farm.

The 2024 Wood County Technical Center Career Fair was a huge success. We had almost 50 different representatives from business, industry, military, and higher education.

The Wood County Technical Center recently held the 2024 National Technical Honor Society Induction Ceremony on the campus of WVU-P. Congratulations to all of the students who received this honor of excellence! Students inducted into NTHS maintain high academic, attendance, and community service standards. Thank you to Natalie Lee, NTHS Advisor, and all our teachers who participated and assisted with the ceremony.
The Sports Medicine Program had the honor of meeting Brenton Strange, an NFL tight end who plays for the Jacksonville Jaguars. It was interesting to get to talk to him and hear about a typical day in the life of a big star NFL player!
A very special THANK YOU to Magistrate Brenda Marshall for presiding over the mock trials yesterday! It was a great learning experience and the criminal justice students enjoyed it very much. The students created case facts, witness testimony, opening/closing arguments, and all other aspects of a trial. We appreciate the Wood County Justice Center and Magistrate Marshall for taking the time to support our students!

Recently, our students from ProStart attended Hospitality University at the Greenbrier Resort. Mariah Caplinger was chosen to intern with one of the chefs, where she helped prepare food for the banquets. The students also had the opportunity to listen to professionals in the hospitality industry from across the state. There were panel discussions and Q & A sessions about potential issues within our state. They also had the opportunity to meet Governor Jim Justice and Baby Dog. They heard candidates running for governor and visited vendors set up from around the state advertising their programs.
The students who attended were Dillon Fox, Mariah Caplinger, Isabella Ingram, and Olivia Lambey.
Congratulations to Jensen Burge for being a GOLD medalist in the Construction Tool Identification competition at the recent WV SkillsUSA competition. Thank you to Mr. Holbert, his Electrical Technology instructor, for training and accompanying him to the event.
