Members of the Blennerhassett FFA Chapter and the Agriculture Education Courses at the Wood County Technical Center (WCTC) made the presentation of a ‘Book Barn’ book case as well as a series of children’s book about the agriculture industry to Mineral Wells Elementary School and Principal Melissa Powers and Assistant Principal Melissa Vannoy. The delivery culminated a semester long service project by FFA members Remington Blair, Bryant Lucas, Braydon Sampson, Josh Steele and Bodee Walters. As members of the Leadership Class during the spring semester, the student group was tasked with designing and building the Book Barn, compiling a small library of books, and collaborating with Mineral Wells Elementary Administration to make the project come to fruition. Group member Braydon Sampson took a lead role in selecting the books provided by the FFA. “We picked books that show the massive diversity of agriculture and those that don’t reflect the negative stereotypes of agriculture.” Sampson reflected that many children’s book depict farmers as over simplified. “Our industry is so much more complex than overalls and a pitchfork.”

Students who are delayed at the school will continue to be supervised until the buses arrive. This delay includes students riding bus numbers 80, 81, 169, 176, 183, 184 and 218. This affects students from Williamstown Middle High School, Parkersburg High School, Parkersburg South High School, Jackson Middle, Edison Middle, Blennerhassett Middle, Hamilton Middle, Neale Elementary, Lubeck Elementary, Blennerhassett Elementary, Kanawha Elementary and Williamstown Elementary schools. We apologize for the inconvenience and want to assure everyone that students are safe and in good hands. The safety of students is our number one priority.
