PARKERSBURG, WV — What started as a classroom assignment turned into the opportunity of a lifetime for one Parkersburg High School student.

Students enrolled in Parkersburg High School's "Sports in American Culture" class recently had the chance to interview Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Drake London as part of the course's exploration of professional sports and its intersection with American society. The conversation gave students a rare, direct connection to a star in the NFL — but for one student, the experience didn't end there.

At the conclusion of the interview, Jacob Smith, a student at Parkersburg High School, was surprised with a stunning announcement: he has been invited as a special guest of the Atlanta Falcons organization at the 2026 NFL Draft, set to take place in Pittsburgh next week.

Smith will receive behind-the-scenes access to one of the most anticipated events on the NFL calendar. Perhaps most excitingly, he is expected to take the stage on Saturday, April 25th, to help announce a selection during the the draft.

For a young football fan from Parkersburg, West Virginia, the opportunity represents a remarkable moment — one born out of classroom curiosity and a willingness to engage with the world of professional sports.

The NFL Draft in Pittsburgh runs from April 23th through April 25th, with Day 3 festivities, including Saturday's rounds, drawing large crowds and significant national attention.

Congratulations, Jacob — all of Parkersburg will be watching!
