Lauren Flanagan, a graduating senior in Wood County schools, has been named this year's recipient of the Ami-John Crawford Prize Fund/J. J. & Harriet C. West Prize Fund, presented by Maribeth Saleem-Tanner of the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation. Selected by the board of education, the award recognizes a middle or high school student who excels in academics, character, and leadership. Flanagan, who serves as senior class president, is an active leader in Key Club, and participates in yearbook, journalism, and the women's club, was praised for balancing varsity basketball with a 4.24 GPA while completing multiple AP and dual credit courses. Nominators highlighted her integrity, honesty, and thoughtfulness, describing her as someone with a strong moral compass who is motivated by a desire to improve the lives of those around her.
