Several local high school athletic programs and student leaders were recently recognized for their outstanding performances at the West Virginia state championships, showcasing both individual excellence and strong team achievements.
At Parkersburg High School (PHS), the boys track team captured state championship honors with an impressive combination of individual and relay victories. Their performance highlighted depth and talent across multiple events, contributing to a dominant showing on the track. In addition, the PHS boys tennis team earned the title of state runner-up, demonstrating resilience and competitive strength throughout the season.
Wood County Schools were especially well represented by Williamstown High School (WHS), which celebrated multiple championship titles across track and tennis. The WHS boys track team claimed a state championship, bolstered by strong finishes in both individual and relay competitions. The WHS girls track team also delivered an exceptional season, earning state championship recognition, including standout performances in individual and relay events.
On the tennis courts, WHS athletes continued their success. The boys doubles team secured a state championship, while the boys tennis team finished as state runner-up. The WHS girls doubles team also achieved a runner-up finish, adding to the school’s impressive list of postseason accomplishments.
In addition to athletic achievements, students were recognized for academic excellence through their selection to participate in the prestigious West Virginia Governor’s School. This honor reflects a commitment to academic growth and leadership, complementing the success seen in athletics.
