Students at Parkersburg South High School recently demonstrated impressive financial literacy and investment skills through their participation in The Stock Market Game™ in West Virginia.

The Stock Market Game is an educational competition for students in grades 4–12 that challenges teams to manage a hypothetical investment portfolio of $100,000. Facilitated by the SIFMA Foundation and supported by regional economic councils, the program allows students to buy and trade stocks, bonds, and mutual funds on the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ while competing against students across the state and nation.

Four students from Parkersburg South High participated in the competition and achieved outstanding results, with all four finishing among the top 100 students out of approximately 500 participants statewide.

Among those students, two earned especially notable recognition by placing in the Top 10 overall. Christopher Cobb and Brody Burrows were recognized for their exceptional performance and investment strategies during the competition.

During a recent Board of Education meeting, Maria Francisco, principal of Parkersburg South High, presented Christopher with a certificate honoring his achievement. Brody was unable to attend at the time of the presentation but was also recognized for his accomplishment.

Members of the Board of Education congratulated the students for their success and commended them for representing Parkersburg South High with excellence. Their achievements highlight the value of providing students with real-world learning experiences that build critical thinking, financial literacy, and decision-making skills.
