Caperton Center

STEAM Academy start moved to Aug. 30

PARKERSBURG - The opening of Wood County Schools STEAM Academy will be delayed by one week to allow for more preparation time for the middle school program.

The STEAM Academy will begin Aug. 30 at the Caperton Center on the campus of West Virginia University at Parkersburg. The academy is a new district-wide program which provides once-a-week classes for all students in grades 7-8.

Middle school students will have the opportunity to attend programs emphasizing science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics. The first two programs will focus on

Design and Modeling, and Space and Flight.

Officials will use next week to finalize details on the program. Students are bussed to Caperton from their home schools once a week, so parents will not see any change in drop-off or pick-up schedules.

Additional details will be made available next week.
